KGB: Guess Who's Coming To Toronto?

The Leafs would like Ryan Smyth playing on the wing with Sundin (kind of rhymes) this fall, but that is as likely as a Hollywood celebrity giving their child a normal name. Here's what you can expect in Leafs land.

Andrew Raycroft, Pavel Kubina and or Bryan McCabe are history. Kind of sucks for me since I have a McCabe jersey. I also have a Larry Murphy and Dmitri Mironov jersey. Thus my next Leafs sweater will be that of a forward, I am taking suggestions and gifts.

Simple reason for getting rid of two or three of the above is, a boat load of cash. Toronto wants to get trade the fellas named above, by ridding themselves of Raycroft, that gives Toskala the number one job and his perkiness for a contract extension, also would spell the return of CuJo to Toronto as Toskala's back up at under $1million (as Dr. Evil would say).

Kubina and McCabe both make $5million+ Kubina does not have a no trade contract. McCabe does. McCabe would welcome a trade to the Islanders where his wife is from. How about a trade of McCabe to the Island for the rights to Jason Blake who signs for three years with the Leafs????? Makes sense/cents.

Any takers on Kubina's contract? Not a chance.

During the offseason teams can go to 110% of the cap. Barring a miracle relief trade of a $5million d-man, the Leafs have about $6-7million too spend. My suggestion is this.

Sign Jason Blake, Mike Peca, Todd Bertuzzi and Curtis Joseph. Toronto has eight or nine NHL ready d-men ready. No trades available, put Kubina, McCabe abd Raycroft on waivers. No one claimes them, hello Marlies.

That's what I would do, sign who you want within reason and then let waivers take care of the rest if possible. It can be done, the Leafs have the technology, they can rebuild, without the help of Oscar Goldman. Write that down.
