THE RUMOR CHART for real-time updates
Talking to sources this morning and I am starting to hear the Islanders are heavy into Scotty Gomez should they fail to sign Ryan Smyth...
The Canucks are looking to get some offensive help and may be forced to deal some pretty real prospects to do so. A quick look at the offense of the Canucks shows you why Luongo SHOULD have probably won the Hart and Vezina last season..."But all that will change" a Canucks source confirmed this morning to me...
There are reports out of Calgary this morning that Robyn Regehr may want to move on and may not re-sign after this year with the Flames. This is a very interesting report indeed...for one reason...When I first heard that Ryan Smyth was rumoured to Calgary and I asked around as to how Smyth would fit under the cap, I was told that "Regher would be moved." I was pretty shocked. I think Regehr may be one of the top five young D in the game and many Flames fans will tell you he is often better than Phaneuf on many nights. Now that reports are coming out that he wants out it gets REALLY intriguing.
What team may make the biggest pitch for Regehr? The team that I was told just yesterday that was on the verge of the most MAJOR deal...The Penguins. The Pens have some great young players and just picked up some more...Whitney +?
Wes Walz to Buffalo (e3)
Kyle Calder to Toronto (e2)
Todd White to Toronto (e3)
QUESTIONS FROM YESTERDAY
Q:
What do you see the Bruins doing over the next week or so? By the way, the other Northeast team could be the Bruins as mentioned by James Murphy on Inside Hockey ([url]www.insidehockey.com).
EK: I still see Fernandez as a likelihood...plus I am hearing they will go for quantity over quality. Too many holes to go after one of the 7 or 8 million dollar players...
Q:
What is going on with the Flyers? They have been too quiet, something must be going on..
Ek: Alot..They have promised a few people they will land a #1 center and are likely to spend 8 per to do so.
Q:
Ek, heard any possibilities of the leafs landing a substantial forward?
Ek: There is no question they are trying here for Smyth. They are also in the Marleau sweeps I believe..This will be a busy summer. They already made a great trade to get their goalie. Hearing rumblings that they could get Bell's old Chicago buddy Kyle Calder. They also like Todd White...of course ALL of this won't happen...just a portion.
Q:
Ek, would you still put Marleau to the Habs an (e4)?
Ek: Yes. You need to understand how this works. I have heard this rumour from more than one source connected to the deal directly. Until one or more tells me it is "not happening" it stays on the table.
