In a press conference held in Toronto today, major announcements were made regarding the new technologies that will be implemented during next month's World Cup of Hockey.

Player and puck infrared movement technology will allow (jersey sponsors) SAP to provide insights on speed and distance traveled, which should usher in a new era of how we interpret and analyze the game.

Moreover, digital advertising technology can be seen from the comfort of your homes. Where static display ads on boards were once highly-coveted by big-budget marketers, an added digital animation will now appear on advertisers' creative visuals.

This means that fans watching the tournament on television will be treated to animated graphics during play stoppages. In an effort to prevent distracting viewers from game action, the static visuals will remain during gameplay.

More on this soon.
