No, Fedorov is not famous for his time in Columbus. To everyone he is and always will be a Detroit Red Wing. But he did spend three seasons with the Blue Jackets. While he could not lead them to the playoffs he did have some good seasons with the team and had some memorable games.

Personally I can’t I remember Fedorov’s time in Columbus very well but looking at his stats he had a couple nice seasons. In his three seasons he amassed 39 goals, 74 assists and 113 points in 185 games. While those totals may not seem that impressive, in 2008 when Fedorov was dealt to the Capitals, he ranked sixth all time in points in Blue Jackets franchise history; behind Rick Nash, David Vyborny, Nikolai Zherdev, Geoff Sanderson and Ray Whitney.

When Fedorov had a multi-point night the Jackets were basically unbeatable. He scored at least two points in a game with the Jackets 22 times. The Jackets were 19-2-1 in those contests. Here are his best multi-point performances as a Blue Jacket.

3. 2007-08 Game #1 vs Anaheim. 1-1-2

This was the Blue Jackets first game of the season and their home opener. They had the delight of facing the defending Stanley Cup champion, the Anaheim Ducks. This would be a tough game for any team let alone one that just finished 24th in the league. Fedorov came out and in the first period picked up those two points to give the Jackets a lead they would never relinquish, as they blanked the Ducks 4-0. Fedorov assisted on the first goal, a goal by Nash, and scored the second goal on the power-play, assisted by Nash and Ron Hainsey.

2. 2005-06 Game #42 @ Phoenix. 0-4-4

Columbus was in the midst of another poor season when they took on the Coyotes in January of 2006. The Coyotes were also struggling under rookie Head Coach Wayne Gretzky. The Blue Jackets struggled in the game managing only 15 shots. But they made the most of them scoring five goals. Fedorov again came out strong in the first period, setting up Rostislav Klesla and Nash. He added another assist in the second on Byran Berard’s second goal of the game. Fedorov then picked up the secondary assist in the third as Berard completed the hat-trick.

1. 2006-07 Game #22 vs Minnesota. 2-2-4

Minnesota had a very good team, where Columbus as I mentioned above did not. The Wild finished second in the Northwest Division with 104 points, but lost in the first round to the eventual Cup Champion Ducks. Minnesota was led by veterans Brian Rolston and Pavol Demitra and by youngster and future Jacket Marion Gaborik. Fedorov in which has become a theme here was strong in the first period. He had two assists in the period as the Jackets went ahead 2-1. In the third the Wild tied it up early. Fedorov answered just two minutes later to give the Jackets the lead again. Zherdev scored to put the Jackets up by two before Fedorov put the game way with his second as the Blue Jackets won 5-3.

Sergei Fedorov had a great career and as Jackets fans we were lucky enough to be a part of it.
Congratulations Sergei Fedorov as you enter the Hockey Hall of Fame.
