The San Jose Sharks had a couple of prospects suiting up for Team Canada’s 7-1 drubbing of the Czech Republic tonight.
Rourke Chartier scored a goal and Dylan Sadowy recorded a pair of assists on Jake Virtanen’s two goals. Here’s a gif of Chartier’s goal – they all count when they cross the line.
I’m not going to lie, I was channel surfing so I didn’t catch the entire game but what stood out the most when I caught the action was that Rourke Chartier’s shot was weak all night. The goal was weak, other shots were weak, and if he wants to make it to the NHL he’s got some strength issues to take care of if this game was an accurate representation. Outside of his shot strength, Chartier played a solid game of what I saw.
Know who stood out to me? Mathew Barzal. You know, that guy that fell to the New York Islanders and should have been picked by the Sharks? Yeah, let’s dig this one back up, he’s a fantastic talent and it’s ludicrous that he fell to 16.
Jeremy Roy suited up in yesterday’s game against the Russian’s – a 4-1 victory - and was held off the scoresheet. I didn’t catch all of that game either, but what I saw of Roy was pretty satisfying. Hands down the best defensive prospect the Sharks have, and by a wide margin.
Who suits up for Canada for Wednesday’s game against Russia is still to be determined.
Martin Jones’ New Bucket
Here’s a preview of Martin Jones’ new brain protector for the 2015-2016 season.
Sharks Re-Sign Aaron Dell
The Sharks re-upped Aaron Dell on a one year, two-way, deal at $575K. It will take several injuries for Dell to see action at the NHL level, but he’ll battle Troy Grosenick and Joel Rumpel for the jobs with the San Jose Barracuda.
