Updated 2:20pm:

On Stewart...

The Bruins are pushing hard, along with the Penguins and Jets. The Jets tried to get Stewart in the last trade, but had to settle for Stafford.

On Yandle...

The Kings REALLY want to get this player and are in a bit if a game of chicken right now. The Habs and Lightning are also involved...as are possibly the Flyers I was just told.

On Timonen...

With the Flyers two wins this past weekend it is looking more and more likely that Kimmo will stay and try and help the team make the playoffs....

On Phil Kessel...
Phil is taking a day off from practice as he is recovering from a minor groin injury, but that hasn't stopped the rumors or the talk...and finally I am hearing some info which is leading me to believe the Leafs are right about 50/50 when it comes to trading him in the next week...and part of this is a rumored deal with Florida which would send Huberdeau, Bergenheim and a first round pick in this draft (and possibly Vincent Trochek) to the Leafs for Kessel and Robidas (or possibly Polak or a prospect D-man making far less). (e3)

The deal, as told to me last night by the first source, and then again this morning (in a slighty different form) brings with it some intrigue. I was also told another salary dump player could be involved on Florida's side.

This is a rumor, and only a rumor, please no wagering....but a fun rumor to discuss.

Kessel makes a ton of sense in Florida. The Panthers are loaded for bear with prospects and Gallant has them playing a very solid team game in front of Luongo. But they are challenged to score goals at this point....and they could sure use a 30-40 goal sniper who doesn't love the media. Picking up Robidas for a playoff run is something any team would look at...but the money coming with Kessel is huge. Kessel is both a short-term and a long term fix...

The Leafs get a whopping return for a player they need to move with a salary that few teams can make work. Huberdeau has been up and down in his first three seasons, but most feel he will be an absolute star. The first round pick COULD be a lottery pick if the Panthers miss the playoffs, but even if it isn't a lottery pick there are few other drafts as deep as this one...where you won't mind a middle first round pick at all.

Again...this is just a rumor for discussion. This is not one of the seven trumpets playing....

Update: During today's Buzzcast Kevin Allen added that he did not believe there was any way the Panthers would move their first round pick...

We have one week to go and it's starting to really get good!

We will discuss this and the other players I updated on the chart, and I will be back immediately following the show to add onto this blog...
