Looking for back-to-back wins on their western Canada road trip and their fourth win in the last five games, the Dallas Stars (12-13-5) are in Alberta to take on the Calgary Flames (17-14-2) on Friday night. Game time is 8 p.m. CST. The game will be televised on TXA 21.
This is the first of three meetings between the teams this season. The clubs will rematch on March 25 in Calgary and March 30 in Dallas. Last season, the Stars went 2-0-1 against the Flames with a couple of blowout victories.
Dallas enters this game coming off a 2-0 shutout win in Vancouver on Wednesday night. Kari Lehtonen turned back all 27 shots fired on his net and goals by Colton Sceviour early in the second period and Antoine Roussel's late third-period empty netter were enough offense to win. Although the Stars remain ranked at the bottom of the NHL in goals against average per game, the club has yielded two or fewer goals in two of the last four games and three in a 4-3 win over New Jersey.
On the injury front, the Stars remain without Patrick Eaves (ankle), Valeri Nichushkin (hip surgery) and Patrik Nemeth (severe forearm laceration from a skate cut).
Calgary enters Friday's game winless in its last six games. The club is coming off an ugly 5-2 loss to the New York Rangers on Tuesday night, as the Flames yielded shorthanded, power play and even strength goals to the Blueshirts.
Veteran netminder Jonas Hiller will get the start in goal against the Stars.
