The Boy Who Would Be King

The Sabres are 0-4 on home ice this season due in large part to the fact that they have scored only two goals on their home ice. When you score only two goals for in twelve periods of play in front of your season ticket holders, you know you’ve got a problem with your offense. They save their “offense” for the road where in two games they’ve scored 6 goals this season. Before they stabbed westward to Cali for a tortuous three game roadie that begins tonight in Anaheim, the Sabres were shutout in back to back games by the Florida panthers and Boston Bruins.

McDavid himself may end up scoring more tonight in the game against the Niagara ice Dogs than the Sabres combined have scored on home ice in its four losses thus far into the new season. The Otters have pumped in 49 goals in their 9 games played this season, including 7 games of five or more goals. McDavid has recorded 8 multi-point games, including three four-point efforts. McDavid now has points in 19 of his last 20 games, recording 17 goals and 47 points in the process.

The swashbuckling Otters are 8-0-0-1. McDavid already has accumulated 8 goals and 17 assists in 9 games played.

Speaking of “saved”… the boy who would be king and his band of merry offensive marauders will invade the First Niagara Center tonight. Sabres fans view Connor McDavid as their savior from all of the suffering that they have had to endure for the past few seasons. McDavid will be the #1 overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft. Boston University ‘s Jack Eichel will do his best to unseat the young sniper. Eichel played in Buffalo a few weeks ago and raised more than a few eyebrows among Sabres fans. The fans that I speak with would rather take McDavid than Eichel given their druthers.

If and when the Sabres continue to lose games, they may find themselves sitting in the cat bird’s seat with the #1 overall pick in June 2015.

Erie is the only team in the OHL without a regulation loss this season. Their only setback so far was a 4-3 shootout loss in London on Oct. 15

Dylan Strome (7G, 16A 23) plays the role of “Robin” to McDavid’s “Batman. Strome has eight multi-point games to his credit this season, bolstered by four three-point outings. Strome will be a top ten pick in this June's draft.

How cool would it be if the Sabres end up drafting both young studs with their three first round draft choices?
