There’s not much to report this morning as Blackhawk Nation waits for the proverbial “other shoe” to drop on the Hawks’ cap situation.

Cynics (who me?) will tell you the Hawks typically wait until after the parties (Prospect Camp, Fan Convention) are over to deliver controversial or less than popular news. Myself, I believe this news will take the form of a good to very good roster player going elsewhere for minimal return—a salary dump around which most will shrug and say “that was necessary,” but the return will also be underwhelming.

Like, say, a hobbled Rostislav Olesz, the return for Brian Campbell a few years ago.

The problem is, if you want good players back, they typically bring a cap hit with them. And as anyone with an internet service provider can see that the Hawks are in cap trouble, Stan Bowman doesn’t have a lot of what you’d call leverage in this situation.

But maybe, especially if Bowman were to make the bolder move of dealing a Patrick Sharp for example, he might be able to extract a lower line C/W with some size (or two) from someone and fill a fairly significant hole on the roster.

In other news, I was told the Hawks considered Adam Oates and Tony Granato before finally deciding on Kevin Dineen to replace Jamie Kompon as assistant coach. I think this is a solid hire.

I’ll be back with more as I have it,

JJ
