Did I get your attention? (If you don't want the fluff, head down to 'sideboard')

Yes, I truly believe they missed the boat here. In an effort to find new ideas to make the upcoming NHL Draft Party even more fun, they came up with something they’ve never tried before.

“Hey… How about a dunk tank? Three tries for a donation to the Islanders Children’s Charities.” Cue the laughter, but hey…. Not a bad idea. Matt Martin overhead the idea and said “Hey! I’ll do it if it’s for charity.”

Matt Martin would do just about anything for charity…. Including getting very wet in a vat of water. So, for a donation of $100 about a dozen people will be able to test their arm for a good cause. http://islanders.nhl.com/?navid=nav-teamnav-nyi That’s all well and good, but really…

WHO REALLY WANTS TO DUNK MATT MARTIN?

Matty Marts? He’s a fan fave! Good sport, good guy. No, you want people lined up around the Coliseum with $100 bills in their hand, put someone else in that tank, like say -- Mike Milbury. (let that image just settle in for a moment.)

Sadly, I don’t think Milbury would venture any where near the old barn, not even for charity. Shame. Opportunity missed.

Even if you aren’t one of those in line warming up your pitching arm, stick around because you may see someone “bring the heat” and get his money’s worth.

Don’t forget about the blow-out merchandise sale they have at the draft party. Great bargains for things you may have had your eye on all season. I always walk away with great bargains.

Stop by the Booster Club table (there should be one) and check them out. What’s that saying? Membership has it’s benefits?

Sideboards: Okay, so yes: Garth Snow is shopping Dan Boyle’s rights as they could not advance a contract offer. Boyle’s agent said all the right things in print, but as July 1st is fast approaching, Snow is hoping not to be left with nothing to show for his brave effort.

He will also be actively looking for a back-up goalie along with that strong LW and veteran defenseman. Talks with Nabokov have also not resulted in a new contract for the netminder.

Although, here is some good insight from my buddy Andy Graziano:

I wouldn't count Nabokov out just yet as #isles backup. He signed last year on 7/1 after talks before draft failed.

It looks like this may be one year where those “UFA Sprinkles” he has always talked about won’t be of any use and acquisitions will only be made via trade. Count on some aggressive moves on the draft floor.
