And you thought we were going to be doing nothing until the draft. Nah...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ISLANDERS ACQUIRE BOYLE

UNIONDALE, NY (June 5, 2014) – The New York Islanders announced today that defenseman Dan Boyle has been acquired from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2015 National Hockey League Draft. The exchanged pick becomes a fourth-round selection if Boyle signs with the Islanders.

Boyle, 37, led all San Jose Sharks defensemen in points (36) and goals (12) in 75 games this past season. The Ottawa, ON, native added four assists in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Now, some are saying it's his RIGHTS and as you can see from the release, they're saying Boyle himself. Then saying "IF" he signs, so I guess we have to wait and see what happens. But I'm guessing the Isles have many ways of enticing the 38-year-old free agent away from the Western Conference.

*Garth has had conversations with both Boyle and his agent today. His agent seemed surprised that the Isles even had any interest in him. Nothing concrete was established today, but Garth Snow is hopeful a deal can be made. Boyles agent tells Art Staple that his client wants to talk to people about the Isles situation. He is open to all options.

Staple has a great quote on Twitter from Garth: "If we sign Boyle, they'll both be on the No. 1 power play. We think that's a plus."

Nice.

Where else can he play with John Tavares? Really?

Give Garth credit for jumping in and grabbing negotiating rights.

Also, don't get to comfortable thinking the Isles are picking at #5 on 6/27. They'll be using that pick on the floor for sure. Okay, so not 'for sure' for sure, just my opinion, but as it has come to my attention that this year there were no prospect invitees to show around Long Island and get to know them, maybe it's not so important the quality of the character of let's say the top 10 prospects.

I'm guessing they will, somewhere along the way, draft a goalie or two. They need to restock the shelves. They'll pick a few kids that we'll end up seeing at the Rookie camp in July.

And if you are a season subscriber or are friends with some on Twitter, you know the Blue & White scrimmage is set for July 10th this year. Still a bargain at only $10 going to charity. A fun night out in July.
Also, the Father's Day sale at the team store is going on with a bonus of a free gift with the purchase of $150 in merchandise.
