New Jersey Devils: What Could Lou Lamoriello Get For Martin Brodeur?

Perhaps the biggest question surrounding the Devils is what will happen with Martin Brodeur at the trade deadline.

There's been a lot of reports speculating Devils GM Lou Lamoriello would be willing to move the 41-year-old future Hall of Famer, but only if Brodeur were to approach him about a trade.

At the start of the season it seemed very unlikely for a scenario like that to play out, but Brodeur wants to start and Cory Schneider is clearly the No. 1 guy going forward.

Brodeur has hinted several times that he'd probably return to the NHL for another season and, given he wants to start, it probably won't be in New Jersey.

If Brodeur wants to start and will leave New Jersey in the summer anyways, it may make sense to move him now to a team where he can play a little more frequently if it'd bring in an asset to the team.

Should Brodeur get sick of riding the pine and ask for a trade, what could the Devils get for him? Well, not much.

A lot of people think because of the name he holds and past success the Devils would get a nice haul for him, but the reality is they'd likely get a 2nd or 3rd round pick, at best.

Brodeur is 41, he's on an expiring contract and he currently has a .899 save percentage, which is 46th in the NHL out of 51 eligible goaltenders.

Age has caught up to him, and it shows in the numbers, as last season he posted a .901 save percentage and his best mark since 2010 is .908SV%.

If Brodeur wants out and Lou Lamoriello grants his wish, don't expect much in return. Brodeur's best days are long behind him, and that's no secret.
