New Jersey Devils: What Is Jaromir Jagr's Trade Value?

Lou Lamoriello and the Devils will have a lot of decisions to make in a short period of time when the trade freeze lifts after the Olympics.

Depending on their first few games out of the break, Lamoriello could either buy and trade for some scoring help or trade off some veterans to help make up for the lack of draft picks in the cupboard.

Perhaps the toughest decision to make will be what to do with soon to be 42-year-old Jaromir Jagr. Jagr has expressed his love for playing in New Jersey several times this season and seems open to re-signing if he plays another season, however, he may be Lamoriello's best trade chip should he decide to sell.

Personally I think the more likely scenario is the Devils keep Jagr and try to re-sign him for next season, but trading him is a possibility; especially if the Devils lose a few games in a row after the Olympic break.

Should Lamoriello decide to move Jagr, what could he get?

Well, I think Lamoriello's priority would be to get a 1st round pick considering the team doesn't have one, and I think he may be able to. A lot of people are talking about getting a 2nd or a 3rd and a prospect for Jagr, but I think they're underselling his value.

Look no further to what he brought the Dallas Stars last season. At the deadline Dallas was able to get a conditional 2nd round pick (turned into a 1st round pick - Jason Dickinson, who I love) and two prospects for Jagr, who was producing at a .76 point per game clip.

This year Jagr's been the Devils best offensive player while playing against top competition, and is averaging .83 points per game. Not only that, but he's been a great influence on Travis Zajac, Adam Henrique and pretty much anyone else he's played with.

For a team lacking scoring and experience heading into the playoffs, he would be a great asset to have. That is why I think the Devils would be able to get a 1st round pick for Jagr. If they can't, even if they start falling out of the playoff race, it might be best to re-sign Jagr and try to make the playoffs again next season depending on the offers at hand.

We won't find out what happens for almost a month, but it'll be interesting to see what Lamoriello does with this future Hall of Famer.

- Is Mike Cammalleri a good fit in New Jersey?

- Pete DeBoer's not the problem.
