When did 36 year-old Bill Guerin become such a hot commodity? The asking price for Guerin is rumoured to be a high pick and a high level prospect.

No thanks, JD.

He's having a great year, no doubt about it, but to give up high picks and prospects for a guy who'll just return to St. Louis to play with his buddies again next year seems a little far fetched. I think Dave Nonis might experience big time buyers remorse in July when Guerin packs his stuff up and heads back to the States.

If I was GM, the only prospect I'd move for Billy G would be Cory Schneider and maybe, just maybe a low second rounder. Even typing that makes me cringe.

Rental players have a better chance of working in baseball than they do in hockey. MLB teams usually pick up an ace on the mound to put their teams over the top, but the margin of error is drastically reduced in America's national passtime.

Pitchers just pitch. That's it. They stroll out onto the mound, rub up the ball and throw their junk. They don't have to worry about gelling with linemates, altering the top two or three lines or even developing chemistry on the ice or field. They toss their six or seven innings, then go to the dug-out and throw a towel over their head. Job done.

Look at the New York Yankees last year. They brought in the big bat of Bobby Abreu and the chemistry of the team was thrown way out of whack. Gary Sheffield even volunteered to play first base! But hey, I'm a Red Sox fan so I'm more than OK with the Pinstripes going down in flames with their huge payroll and lack of team cohesiveness.

I just don't want to see the same thing happen with our Canucks.

Even if Vancouver makes some sort of deal, there's going to be the issue of chemistry and gelling etc., but at least there will be a chance at achieving cohesiveness if the deal is for someone who will be here long term and isn't expected to be the saviour.

I think if Nonis is going to make a move, he should stay the course of keeping our future in-tact and make as little disruption to our team as possible. A solid depth guy at the fifth spot on D would suit me just fine.
