Time for Yeo to Go?

Back in November, I ended a blog with the following:

in December, I say the Wild will go 7-4-3. So, by the end of December, the Wild should have around 53 points through 42 games and will be theoretically on pace to grab 106 points on the full season and qualify for the NHL playoffs. While it would be a step backwards for the Wild in these next 21 games by garnering only 23 points, when combined with the 30 they have to date, they should be just fine. However, if they bomb, as they are want to do, then it will be interesting to see what moves the front office makes to make the Wild a tougher and more potent opponent to play against.

Tonight, the Minnesota Wild dropped their season high 5th game in a row. With 45 points, they are now in 10th place in the West and another mid-season swoon is happening in Minnesota. On pace to finish with approximately 90 points, they are not in a realistic position currently to qualify for the post-season this season.

Sure, the Wild have had some tough opponents lately. However, the last four (Rangers, Flyers, Jets and Islanders) were all very beatable teams. Losing to these four teams speaks volumes as to where this team is at.

Given their salary cap constraints, moving players does not seem to be a viable option. Assuming Chuck Fletcher wants to keep his job, he may have no other choice than replacing the head coach, no matter how much it may pain him to do that.

Frankly, I say just let him ride as head coach until next season when he has better player personnel and then, if he can't get this team winning, then think about changing horses. However, fans and the owner may not be as level headed as yours truly.

From a marketing standpoint, Minnesota is a market where winning gets butts in seats. If the Wild's woes continue and, if they don't replace the coach, the club may find it difficult selling tickets this season. However, with more cash on hand next season and a rumored outdoor game (not the Winter Classic), the club may not be worried about that so much.

Time to take hockeybuzz's temperature as this issue for the Wild is concerned, what say you?
