The Oilers have traded goalie Jason LaBarbera to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Future Considerations.

The Oilers signed LaBarbera hoping that he would provide solid netminding in a support role behind Starter Devan Dubnyk. What ended up happening is that the Oilers needed LaBarbera to take the reigns when Dubnyk ultimately failed to provide NHL calibre goaltending. Unfortunately LaBarbera was not up to the task either.

The Oilers remove one contract off of their books and reduce the amount of money they are spending on a position that has failed them completely. No doubt if it was humanly possible to move Dubnyk the Oilers would have jumped all over it, but his salary is prohibitive to any sort of movement.

LaBarbera has a .870 sv% and a 3.28 GAA with the Oilers this season.
