Isles Stadium Jersey - Closer to NEW Home

The silver-ish 'NY-hockeystick' logo was released a few weeks ago, but now it graces the front of a new stadium series jersey. (Get out your credit card.) The jersey itself is still blue, but that new logo has a distinctive touch of black to it.

In Art Staple's article for Newsday players such as John Tavares and Matt Martin call them "sharp" and "futuristic." I call them another step towards distancing themselves from Long Island.

By removing the shape of the Island from the crest and replacing it with a simple NY, I think Yormark is getting his wish of rebranding with a more Barclay's feeling look. And while the article states that many in the Isles organization had input into the design. I can't imagine that Yormark wasn't at the top of that food chain. That silver NY looks like it could have come off an SUV hood from one of the chop-shops that used to grace Atlantic Yards. A little closer to Brooklyn NY, a lot further from LONG ISLAND.

From the looks of practice yesterday and reports from various Newsday reporters, the Isles will not be calling up any defensemen from Bridgeport. Both Andrew MacDonald and Thomas Hickey practiced and are suggested as being game worthy for tonight's tilt against the Jets. (Much to Calvin deHaan's dismay.)

Speaking of 'dismay', Rick DiPietro has requested a release from the Charlotte Checkers after spending a month with the Hurricane's affiliate. His numbers were poor and he lost all four games he played in. This must have weighed very heavy on Rick who continued to work hard at getting back to his old self.

It's not happening. This may have been exactly the wake-up call RDP needed to see that no matter how hard he worked or how much he wanted it, his body will never be the same. There are many things he can do with the rest of his life, while making money is not one of the most pressing issues.

I'd like to suggest he join his old friend Jason Blake in Florida and go teach kids how to play hockey. Rick was always happiest with the kids and he still has plenty he can give them.

For all those attending tonight's Isles game, please bring a can or three of food to help the less fortunate. I will be locked in my kitchen... as usual.
