The Anaheim Ducks will be without the services of Jakob Silfverberg and Mathieu Perreault when they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets today in Ohio.

It was revealed yesterday that Silfverberg sustained a broken hand from a slash during the teams 2-1 over the Ottawa Senators. Perreault sprained his wrist in the win and is listed as day-to-day.

Silfverberg and Perreaullt have been outstanding in their debut season with the Ducks and when I say outstanding I mean it.... Imagine where this team would be without them!>

Silfverberg has been among one the most consistent Ducks forwards. His 35 shots is second only to Cory Perry and he ranks fourth in team scoring with seven points in 11 games. Silfverberg's four goals is also tied for second on the team with Perreault, Nick Bonino and Ryan Getzlaf.

Perreault in his own right has helped the Ducks become one of the best face-off teams in the NHL. Anaheim has struggled in that area quite a bit over the last few seasons, but they currently rank sixth in the NHL in that category. He is also second in team scoring with nine points (4g 5a) and has been an overall an nice pick-up for the team.

We talked quite a bit about the Ducks injury issues during the preseason. Well, it looks like the bad luck (injury-wise) has carried over into the regular season. With the loss of Viktor Fasth, now SIlfverberg and Perreault the team's depth is officially being tested. This is like taking the SAT on the first day of school tested.

Depth is supposed to be an asset to this team...will it be? Or will the injuries derail what has already been a relatively successful season?

I guess we'll find out quickly and it starts today in Columbus. This will be the first of two meetings between the clubs this season. The Jackets are 5-5 and are looking to build off a slow start to the season. They are hoping the road weary Ducks are just what they need to get above .500 this season.
