Is this Buffalo's worst season in franchise history?

After 10 games and a 1-8-1 record, I'm starting to wonder just how bad the Sabres will be statistically by the end of the season. They are on pace for approximately eight wins, but I believe they'll get many more than that.

The Sabres are in 29th place, but the last place Flyers have played two fewer games. Maybe Buffalo does have a solid chance at landing that #1 overall pick.

Bottom five teams as of today:
26. New Jersey (1-4-3) 5 points
27. Edmonton (2-6-1) 5 points
28. Rangers (2-5) 4 points
29. Buffalo (1-8-1) 3 points
30. Philadelphia (1-7) 2 points

Out of that group, I don't think Buffalo is better than any of those teams. The Flyers may be their only chance, but this could be the season in which the Sabres can land a #1 draft pick.

While it's very early in the season to be talking about it, the Sabres are currently on pace for their worst season in franchise history. I'm not counting any partially locked out seasons.

Below are three of the worst seasons in Sabres history:

1971-1972 16-43-19 (51 points)
1986-1987 28-44-8 (64 points)
2002-2003 27-37-10 (72 points)
2013-2014 ?????????

There are still 72 games remaining, but the Sabres seem to have a horrendous season once every decade. Even if the Sabres win go 30-40-2 the rest of the year (total of 65 points), that would be the lowest point total since 1986-87. Again, that doesn't count any seasons with a lockout.

I'll admit that I didn't think the Sabres would be this bad, but now I'm wondering how low they can go. Rolston and Regier have both been rumored to be on the hook, as they should be. Other teams make changes quickly when things head in the wrong direction, but Buffalo is different.

Would one of the worst seasons in franchise history cause for a coaching change? A GM change? Is this the time to root for failure to obtain a top draft pick?

Either way, we will see a very interesting trade deadline to say the least. How the organization handles this season will help us clearly see which direction the team is going in.

Chris London tweeted this:
#Sabres have led for 9:35 of the entire season. They've played 606:50. They've held a lead for 1.57% of total minutes played.

When you win 1 out of 10 games, those numbers are going to be ugly, but not even half a period for Buffalo.

Dave Davis tweeted this earlier today: The Sabres traded Biron to PHI for pick that BUF used to take T.J. Brennan. Brennan was traded to FLA for pick used to take Gustav Possler.

I've always liked Biron, as many have, and I can see him finding some kind of role with the team. He was on WGR today, and I think we may see him find something permanent here.

As always, thank you for reading!
