We are all "iced in" outside of Philly today. About 2 inches of ice have fallen this morning and I am just very happy we still have power...I have three laptop batteries charged fully and extra cell phone batteries along with wireless cards, because I refuse to let the weather kill another full day of rumors…. especially one that could be rather eventful.

A few quick notes to start the day....

Add the Minnesota Wild to the list of teams that have interest in Berard. The question is what will Columbus do with Modin and Berard?

Also I heard one interesting scenario today that could find Biron in Florida for Eddie Belfour plus another player possibly Bertuzzi (along with a conditional pick should Bert not sign)

Them's Fighting Words Jim....

Anyway, today writer, that I have a great deal of respect and admiration for, wrote the following in his column...you probably have seen it...

EDMONTON - The Internet is a wonderful vehicle for venting and blogging, a place where hockey fans can fantasize about trades their teams should be making.

But it's also a waste basket for pure trash. Like this one:

Oilers Scouting Derian Hatcher.

I admit this rumor is surprising, but to call it “pure trash” is hardly accurate. I have three sources (one directly with one of the teams) that the Oilers are scouting Hatcher. It is one thing to say that you think it isn't a "good idea" to bring Hatcher in, but it another to call a rumour "pure trash." I would be surprised if the deal went down as well, but I am 100% certain they are scouting Hatcher. I didn't say Hatcher to Edmonton (e4). I said Edmonton Scouting Hatcher (e4)

I got this rumor from a source first early Monday. It was an e1 at that point, and frankly seemed illogical as well. But the scouts are here, so I figured I should follow up on it, because if there is one thing I have learned, it is "you really never know." I in fact felt that Joni Pitkanen was probably who they were scouting. I just got off the phone with Tim Panaccio from the Philly Inquirer and Hockeybuzz, who was one of the people who emailed me yesterday and confirmed from his sources that, to our surprise, the Flyers had told the Oilers that Joni was not going to be traded and had learned that the scouts were here to scout Hatcher.

Again, I do respect Jim, and he very likely has someone telling him they aren't scouting Hatcher. All we can do in this reporting business is report what we hear. That is why I have the e-system set up the way it is set up. If you want a breakdown of the e-system you can look in the FAQ section on hockeybuzz.

Again,I am in no way attacking Jim, he is far more experienced and than I am and I have been a fan of his writing. I am simply defending myself and my story.

Yesterday, I put out there that there is a special login for players, media and team people who want access to the chart. I sent out the password to about 40 of you..ONE OF YOU changed the password. Remember, this is a shared account and password. Do not change it! :)

It wasn't working this morning and there were some angry hockey players.

FYI, It has been changed back to what you were told it was yesterday.

In all seriousness, my theory is that if you or someone you represent is personally on the chart you should be entitled to see it. There is a code I have been giving to industry people and players. Email me and I will give you the information. Agents, team reps, and players, etc. can email [email protected] and I will set you up. Please include a contact number or someone I may contact to verify you for obvious reasons.
