Ryan Miller tweeted a response to the old fashioned line brawl.

I love his sense of humor. Good stuff!

Updated 11:20pm:

I just read the game summary and the refs assessed a match penalty to Phil Kessel, whoch carries with it an automatic suspension. How many games? Thats to be decided by Gary Bettman. Monday will be a busy day at the NHL offices in NYC as David Clarkson and Kessel will be having hearings, as will Vancouver's Zack Kassian and Dale Weise.

Who says that Ryan Miller and the Buffalo Sabres don't take the preseason games seriously?

The bad blood that spilled in the third period of this game began boiling in Buffalo when these two teams fought to a 30 man shootout ending in Buffalo.

It doesn't take much to get the Sabres and Leafs to drop their gloves and fight each other. The two teams hate each other, and have for four plus decades.

At 10:01 of the third period, just as Corey Tropp had gotten the Sabres to within 4-3, all Hell broke loose when both benches cleared and Ryan Miller fought Jonathon Bernier.

When the ice chips settled, the Sabres and Leafs combined for 93 penalty minutes in the line brawl.

Thanks to Deadspin for the video:

John Scott and Phil Kessel got into a chirpfest just after Corey Tropp had scored, and then the dam broke loose. Tropp was bloodied in a fight with Leafs cement head Devane in an incident that ignited the blaze of negative emotions. Tropp lost his helmet in the fight with Devane and it appears that he hit his head on the ice. He's being evaluated for a concussion. Tropp has a history of concussion, and I hope that he's okay. He's an honest, solid guy in the room and on the ice. I get the sense that Scott and the Sabres were outraged because Devane opted to beat up a guy 4 inches shorter and 20 pounds lighter than himself. Why wouldn't Devane ask Scott to drop and go? Scott would have gladly obliged Devane, who chose to take the low road. Devane violated the code. Thats why all hell broke loose.

One wonders what the Hell was Carlyle thinking having Kessel on the ice with John Scott. Carlyle is the home coach and he had the last line change. Devane took out a smaller opponent in Tropp, so Kessel became fair game to Scott.

As the Kessel assault on Scott escalated, new Leaf David Clarkson took matters into his own hands, as he's been known to do, and he left the Leafs bench to get involved in a fight. Thats ancautomatic suspension, similar to that of Paul Bissonette's 10 game suspension for leaving the bench to fight Jordan Nolan last week. Clarkson will be forfeiting over $500,000 on salary for his idiocy. Hope it was worth it, Clarkson.

In a nutshell, John Scott riled up Kessel and Clarkson to the point that both will no doubt be suspended. That will have a dramatic impact on the Leafs in the month of October.

Kessel took 6-7 two handed baseball slashes at the ankles of Scott. For all of that, Kessel only received a two minute minor and a five minute major. He'll be getting a call from the NHL office tomorrow. Clarkson, too. The Leafs will likely be without two of their top six forwards for an extended period of time.

Ryan Miller skated to the Buffalo blue line to fight Leafs goalie Jonathon Bernier.

Lost in all of the madness was the fact that Marcus Foligno left the Buffalo bench with what appeared to be a shoulder injury. More on that later.

Within moments of this ugly international incident, twitter literally melted down as fans at the game began tweeting and vining the images that they were experiencing live, and in person.

Here are some of those images:

Thanks, Rance Romance

Thanks, Jannell Stephens
