The Forsberg Watch...down to two today?

There is nothing more frightening to a reporter than giving time-lines. So at the risk of all that is sane, all I can tell you is what I am being told, and what I think is going to happen. These are high stakes, and yet no one really knows what will happen next. Not even the teams involved. What one team tells another can be honest or it can be a game.

Snider and Forsberg met yesterday. From what I have heard it sounds like it was a good, solid meeting where Ed, who is an extremely passionate man, and a respectable man, told Peter why he wants Peter to be part of the upcoming future of the Flyers. I get the sense that this meeting was more about next year than it was this year.

Meanwhile, in another universe, this year's fate was being decided, and the current price that is on the rumor mill and was reported by Dan Wood in th Orange County Register, and I can confirm from my sources is two first round picks and a young player on a current NHL roster. Dan thinks the ducks are out of it.

RDS reported that Montreal is one of the three teams yesterday. My sources are saying that Montreal IS NOT in this anymore. The Flyers price and the risk/reward may be too steep for the Habs.

If you are going to pay that kind of price, for a rental who has injury issues, you almost HAVE to be a team that is one of the top four teams in the NHL. You need to believe that Forsberg makes you better than the other three top teams.

Vancouver has 100% talked to Philly about Peter, but the cap issue looms heavy there.

A good source also told me that he is fairly certain that Forsberg will likely be moved today. perhaps in the next few hours.

Another said that it could go a few more days, but he doubts the Flyers would risk playing Peter again. The Flyers in ironic fashion play the Red Wings TONIGHT in Philly.

So I know what you are thinking...WHAT DOES ANY OF THIS MEAN? WHERE IS HE GOING EKLUND?

OK, a source I trust implicitly believes the current price is Two Number One's and a prospect/player and that it is down to only two teams. That is what I believe as well.

My guess is that by the end of the day Forsberg is either a Red Wing, or a Predator. I will add this however. If the bidding goes too high there could be a colling off period and we could see a week where both teams decide to think on it. If that happens who knows what other teams will get involved.

I think the Preds may have the edge here due to some great young d prospects. They know how to draft d-prospects in Nashville, that's fopr certain. I also think they may be willing to pay more to take their shot. That is just a gut feeling.

I will report on other players s well today...but this is so hot and so all-consuming that until this very instance everything else is on the backburner.

So for those of you who could care less about Foppa, check back later, I will have another blog and I will keep updating The Chart as the day goes...
