3:38 pm: Oh, this does not bode well!
According to Art Staple, Jack Capuano has announced that Cal Clutterbuck suffered a serious skate laceration in last night's game and will miss some extended time. OH NO!

He also was impressed with some of the young prospects and said some veterans were rusty. No kidding.

10:25 am: The hit was a little worse than it looked as Cal Clutterbuck will fly back to Long Island today with the Islanders and be evaluated later tonight. Hope he is okay. He did land awkwardly.

7am: Isles fall to the Calgary Flames in BOTH pre-season exhibition games Tuesday night. Isles Captain, and NHL star John Tavares and his partner Matt Moulson made the trip to Regina (and each scored a goal and an assist) along with NHL hopefuls Anders Lee, Brock Nelson and Ryan Strome.

Patrons in Calgary saw NHLers Josh Bailey, Frans Nielsen and Kyle Okposo moved up to the first line while Michael Grabner played on the second line with Peter Regin and Cal Clutterbuck. Andy MacDonald was paired with Matt Donovan while Griffin Reinhart and Ryan Pulock saw their first glimpse of NHL action.

In Calgary it was the Dennis Wideman show as he scored twice for the Flames and seemed to be just about everywhere on the ice. Michael Grabner scored first for the Isles at 3:20 of the first period and it looked like the Isles would get off to a hot start. It took Calgary until four minutes into the second period when Lance Bouma evened it up at one.

Wideman gave the Flames the lead at 7:39 of the second and shortly thereafter Kevin Poulin (who stopped 14-of-16)was replaced by Anders Nilsson who would give up two goals on 13 shots.go on to save 11-of-13.

There were plenty of penalty minutes handed out to both teams, but the Isles got stuck 5 on 3 twice as they took three penalties within three minutes. Wideman scored his second goal of the game on the second 5 on 3 opportunity. While still on the power play, the Flames made it 4 to 1 on a goal by forward TJ Galiardi

Reinhart scored just before the second intermission as he skated alongside Wideman.

Riley Wetmore would add to the Isles score in the third, But the Isles ended up on the short end of the sheet with a 5-3 final on an empty netter.

Other incidence of note in Calgary was the butt-over-head dumping of Cal Clutterbuck which the Flames TV played over and over and over again. In Regina the first period fisticuffs between Islanders Brett Gallant and Calgary’s Brian McGrattan set the tone early.

Nabokov gave up two goals and Ken Reiter did the same.

Jack Capuano said the Flames just played better than the Isles. They did -- on both sheets of ice. But again, that's why the call it training camp.
