The 'Mighty' Ducks Return to Anaheim

The Anaheim Ducks will finally be back on the ice as a team today when they participate in their first full practice at the Rinks in Anaheim starting at 9:45 a.m.

This morning's practice officially kicks off the the Ducks 20th NHL season. The team has already let it be known that the season will be filled with several events paying homage to the team that Gordon Bombay once coached.

The first big event will be held on Oct. 13 when the Ottawa Senators and Bobby Ryan skate into town for the first time. Anaheim will wear those vintage teal and purple 'Mighty Ducks of Anaheim' jersey's. This will be the first of several "throwback" nights scheduled to commemorate the teams original Disney roots.

From 1993 to 2006 the real "Mickey Mouse" organization broke the hockey mold when they went with a Disney inspired duck mask logo on their jersey along with non-traditional colors. This soon gave birth to the now famous Wild Wing mascot and the rest as they say is history.

Although these jersey's were often the butt of countless jokes from fans of other clubs, especially the ones to the north, they have become a great source of pride for Anaheim fans. I was once one of those people that scoffed at the eggplant colored sweaters and cartoonish designs, but I too I have a warm place in my heart for this unique and one of a kind piece of NHL and Anaheim history.

However, we can all forget about this one. Okay?

Admit it, who has one of these?

Anyway this season is shaping up to be, if anything, a lot of fun. As future dates are announced I will post them here on HB.

I'll have more from the first day of camp tomorrow. See you all there!
