4:27 pm: NY Islanders Rookie camp gets started in earnest on Friday September 6th. There will be five days for the Isles management team to assess the prospects and decide who will be invited to the Isles training camp and who will be sent to Bridgeport. Sound Tigers coach Scott Pellerin will be running the camp.

There will be a few hopefuls trying to prove they are ready for the big league. This is where it begins to get interesting!

Strome, Reinhart, Pulock, Donovan, de Haan, Nelson, Kabanov -- who will make it to the NHL team?

1:37 pm: In the "surprise to no-one" category, John Tavares will be named NY Islanders Captain early next week. Today there is an informal skate session at IceWorks as the players return to the Island one by one.

John Tavares had a little mishap and lost three teeth when struck by a puck a few days ago. Yep, that's hockey.

Players report for physicals on Wednesday, 9/11, so we'll know who worked out the most over the summer.

The Islanders website has a decidedly different look today. While fitting into the NHL approved template, the site has gone Brooklyn Black. I suppose I should get used to ti.

Mon 11:30 pm: News12 Long Islands Kevin Maher has reported that the Islanders will open their 2013 training camp next Thursday at the Barclay's Center for one day only. It will not be open to the public. All preparation for the first ever hockey game played at the Barclay's center on 9/21.

No other details are available at this time other than training camp will be resumed after at IceWorks and the Coliseum. I have been told "big things are coming," but nothing official has been released as of yet.

Also, there will be changes at MSG and the Islanders broadcast this year. People have moved on and up as does happen in TV. Jim Daddona, producer, has moved on as has Matt Borzello, associate producer. Director Larry Roth, the five time emmy winner, will be moving to Ranger telecasts.

Howie Rose, Butch Goring and Peter Ruttgaizer remain.

Don't forget Colin McDonald will be at the team store on Wednesday beginning at 6 pm. Colin arrives on Long Island tomorrow as he readies for camp and the Islanders charity golf outing next week. It all starts now.

Also, Islanders GM Garth Snow will be answering questions on Gary Hardings radio show on WGBB next Sunday. You can Tweet questions to Gary at @IslesSection317.
