So all this talk about a Lundqvist extension got me thinking, is there a fit in Vancouver next summer?

Now of coarse, there is the one problem of having a certain goaltender signed for, what is it, eight more seasons, bit that can be solved fairly easy via the team's one remaining buyout.

And don't be shocked if that is exercised this summer if he doesn't preform. Francesco Aquilini isn't much different than most fans and he will show an overpaid player the way to the door if he feels there is a better option.

Just consider it a 33 million dollar cost of selling out every game and doing business.

And what better option is out there? Well none other than the best goaltender in the NHL, who also happens to have a fairly good relationship with your newly hired head coach.

Lundqvist made these comments regarding Torts after the firing

“Torts and I had a great relationship,” said Lundqvist, who has returned to his home in Sweden for the summer. “It was exciting and refreshing to play for him. I never had a coach challenge me the way he did, in a good way.

“When you play for a coach and he is let go, you feel really bad as a player. I feel like I should have done more. In the end, it’s up to us players to get the done, but coaches sometimes pay for our mistakes,” the goaltender continued. “I felt the same way when Tom [Renney] was let go four years ago.”

So we have a team that may be looking for goaltender next season that also has a head coach who in in the good books with the No. 1 free agent on the market.

Add to that, Lundqvist has a solid relationship with the twins from their Olympic days, who haven't been shy about wanting to to re-up in Vancouver, and you might have a good fit for Lundquist.

If Vancouver was to pursue this, they would have close to 27 million to spend on getting Lundqvist and the Sedins locked up and a stable of young talent to fill in the holes.

So lets say hypothetically speaking, Vancouver gave the twins a deal worth 6.5 million each and Lundqvist one at around 7.75, you still have a bit of money to fill in the gaps.

What do you think?

Luongo out, Lundqvist in at seasons end?

Until tomorrow my friends, stay classy

Ian
