Looking over the list of available free agents, I noticed a few players who could draw interest from the Sabres. I selected a pair of them and wanted to know which one of the two you would rather see Buffalo go after.
Tonight's matchup: Peter Mueller vs. Mason Raymond
Peter Mueller is a 25-year-old center who has played for three teams in his five years of NHL experience. He's a former 1st round pick (8th overall) and has been plagued by injuries for a couple of years. However, Mueller is still young and may be able to contribute more often if he's in the right place. He's played for Phoenix, Colorado and Florida so far. I'm not saying a move to Buffalo would help him improve on his numbers, but it couldn't hurt.
Here is a scouting report that The Hockey News has on him:
Mason Raymond has played for Vancouver his entire career, but right now, he's available as a free agent. He's a left winger and will be 28 in September, but he's put up some decent numbers. As a 2nd round pick (51st overall), Raymond's best season was in 2009, when he put up 25 goals and 28 assists. He's a bit older than Mueller but hasn't had as many injury problems, and has only played for one team.
Personally, I'd prefer Mueller in this one. I like both players, but I'd go for the center here. Even if Buffalo is looking for wingers, Mueller is younger and could help up the middle, as well as on the power play. I'd take the chance that he could play better than he has in the past, and I don't think he's reached his full potential. Raymond, on the other hand, isn't going up much higher.
If you have any suggestions for other one-on-one player debates, let me know.
