First off, David Leggio has signed with the Washington Capitals. The two-time MVP for the Amerks is now gone. It's a one year, two-way contract.

How much trade value do Miller and Vanek carry?

For this post, I'm going to assume that the Sabres are shopping Thomas Vanek and Ryan Miller. I feel both of them are going to be traded and Buffalo can go for an all-out rebuild on the ice.

Both players are entering the final year of their contract, and both have played in Buffalo throughout their entire career.

I think Vanek has more trade value than Miller. I consider Vanek a star player. I used to consider Miller the same thing, but he is just a good goalie who can be great at times. They both have talent, but Vanek is able to do so much more and is an exciting player to watch. I'd love for the Sabres to keep him, but I think Buffalo can get a lot in return for him.

As for Miller, he needs a change of scenery. He needs a strong defense in front of him. He could use a new situation and needs to get out of a rebuilding system. I think Miller could do very well playing for a different team, and I'd really like to see him succeed.

Unless they are packaged together, I think Buffalo will get more in return for Thomas Vanek.

Howie:
How soon do you think it will be before the sabres make another trade?

I really don't think it's going to be long at all. I can see the Sabres making another trade within the next week or so. Vanek and Miller are obviously the biggest ones being rumored, but I can see even Drew Stafford or a defenseman being packaged in a deal.

Jim:
Do you think the tallinder trade is worth it when we have drafted 2 first round picks who are defenseman?

Yes. First off, I like the Tallinder trade because I believe he will help this team. You have to remember that even though he may not perform as well as he did in previous years, he is also there as a mentor. Plus, Tallinder currently has one year remaining on his contract. If it doesn't go well, the Sabres don't have to re-sign him. Secondly, there is no guarantee that the two first round picks will make it to the NHL level this season. The trade is worth is for a rebuilding team.

Jeff:
How much longer will the Sabres waste a roster spot on Patrick Kaleta? He is oft injured takes as many stupid penalties as he draws and produces few points. The days of carrying a guy like Rob Ray for 10 years are over. A buyout or trade and the signing of Matt Cooke may have been better suited for the Sabres, at least he produces 15- 20 goals and 40ish points per season.

Not a bad question at all. I know exactly what you mean, and I've talked about it in each of the past few seasons. I think Buffalo is going to run out of room for Kaleta. I've liked him from the start of his career, but I will admit, we could definitely put someone more productive on the ice. Especially now with Steve Ott, John Scott and Mike Weber, how many more tough players do the Sabres need? I would have liked Matt Cooke here as well.

Leo t. Arde:
Hey, I was wondering if we traded miller and vanek to the oilers, do you think we would get one of the four of either yakupov, nuge, eberle or even hall?
Thanks!

Doubtful. I see the Oilers as a good trade possibility, but I don't think Buffalo would be able to get any of those four players. I would love to acquire any one of them, but I think we'd get Hemsky or Gagner. You have to remember that Vanek and Miller are both entering the final year of their contract.

Back to Vanek and Miller, the Sabres could get some nice players/picks back when both are traded. Whether they are packaged together or not, I think Buffalo could land a 1st or 2nd round pick and two young players for each.

Let me know in the comments what you think the Sabres would be able to get in return for #26 and #30.

As always, thank you for reading!
