When free agency officially opens up at noon eastern time, several players are expected to sign in short order.

One player that very well could be a member of the New Jersey Devils shortly after 12:00 ET is Ryane Clowe.

Clowe, 30, has 45 points or more in each of his last four full seasons. David Clarkson, who looks like his days as a Devil are over, has only surpassed the 45 point total once in his career.

A strong argument could be made that Clowe is better than Clarkson, and given his asking price is likely lower, it makes sense for the Devils to pursue him.

It'll be interesting to see what happens later today but I think Clowe would be a good replacement for Clarkson.

Speaking of Clarkson, there's a chance a team gives him more than $6 million per on a seven-year contract, according to Darren Dreger.

This should be a fun day.

Patrik Elias signs three-year extension with the Devils.

I take an in-depth look at the Cory Schneider trade.
