Update (10:00): Devils trade for the 208th pick in the draft and select Anthony Brodeur.

9th overall - Traded for G Cory Schneider
42nd overall (via Phoenix) - D Steve Santini
73rd overall (via Phoenix) - C Ryan Kujawinski
100th overall - LW Miles Wood
160th overall - LW/D Myles Bell
208th overall - G Anthony Brodeur

Update (9:10): Devils select LW/D Myles Bell of the Kelowna Rockets. Bell scored 38 goals and put up 93 points for Kelowna in the WHL this past season. That said, it was as a 19-year-old.

Update (8:10): Devils select LW Miles Wood.

Update (7:41): Devils select Ryan Kujawinski 73rd overall. Kujawinski is a big centerman with tons of potential. He can skate, sees the ice well and can score goals as well. He's inconsistent, but he has a lot of tools needed to become a very good NHLer.

Update (6:45): The Devils select defenseman Steve Santini with the 42nd overall pick.

Some had him projected to go as high as late in the 1st round. Santini is a minute munching defensive defenseman who could be a top-4 guy. Good penalty killer, blocks shots, etc.

Good player but the Devils need to improve their forward depth in the system. Perhaps they do that at 73.

Update (6:32): The New Jersey Devils have traded 39th overall to Phoenix for 42nd overall and 73rd overall.

**

The New Jersey Devils have made their splash.

New Jersey has acquired goaltender Cory Schneider from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for the 9th overall pick.

I imagine Schneider and Martin Brodeur will split time on the Devils this year.

This likely means Johan Hedberg is on the way out. He has a no trade clause but I imagine he'll be willing to waive it to continue his NHL career elsewhere.

Quick thoughts: I like the trade. Devils now have a great 1-2 punch in goal and have an undisputed number one goaltender for the future. Schneider's worst save percentage in the last three seasons is .927 and that was this past season. Schneider's an excellent goaltender and at 27, he has many good years ahead.
