How Many Old Flames Does it Take to Kill a Party?

Ever delete a great, REALLY LONG blog you were seconds from posting? I am so mad now, I can't tell you. I will get aspects of it to you now...more later...but here are the rumor parts that really matter to you all...

Well as slow as it has been to this point, it is slow no more on the rumor front. With Craig Conroy's triumphant return to the Flames last night comes more and more sources telling me that another old Flame may be on the radar. It is no secret that the Flames are looking into picking up some experience on the blueline to go with the amazing young corps they currently have assembled. One player that may fit the bill is Derek Morris. This is still an e1, but it is an interesting enough e1. We discussed this yesterday in chat as well before I had enough confirmation to give it an e1. And for those of you who say e1's never happen...Craig Conroy to the Flames was once an e1.

The other team that is getting fierce and trying to put in some guys prior to the deadline is the NY Rangers. As one Ranger source said to me, "Why wait four weeks, with the teams all so close and the playoffs on the line now?

There are some interesting names being thrown around in NY, but the one that could happen sooner than later is Todd Bertuzzi. Another is Bill Guerin, who is also being looked at by the Preds, Sabres, Sens, and Habs. (could Arnott and Guerin play together AGAIN?) However the Blues are right on the fence between seller and buyer, and which way they go will likely go right down to Feb 27. I will update the Buyer/Seller Quotient tomorrow morning.

Also despite what they may be saying I continue to hear the Habs are looking hard and will try and make an impact move for a center. They were rumored to be in the Conroy market with a few other teams.

The Conroy factor may end up playing a bigger role in this year's deadline than was expected for a few reasons.

#1 He went for more than many would have thought.

#2 If he puts the Flames over the top, other Western teams will be forced to respond.

We will see...
