With all the trade speculation concerning the Flames this year, it’s certainly proving difficult for the remaining roster to play out the rest of their season.

First their captain Jarome Iginla was moved to the Penguins, followed by Jay Bouwmeester who was just moved to the St Louis Blues. Both team veterans were moved for first round picks and inexperienced prospects who, for the most part, not many have ever heard of.

The Oilers proved to be too hot for the cooling Flames last night as they beat them 4-1 at Rexall Place in Edmonton. This extends their franchise consecutive road loss record to 11. Although the Flames played relatively well for the half of the first, by the end of the period, they were down by three and Kiprusoff was pulled for allowing 3 goals on 6 shots.

Both teams added one more in the 3rd period to make it 4-1 after a pretty dull game. There seems to be no moral in Calgary after losing their long time leader and top defenseman. The Flames have gone from bad to worse in the 2013 season and fans can only hope that the fire sale will result in a new and improved 2013/2014 roster, because their current roster is less than impressive.

As I’ve mentioned before, the Flames are moving bodies for draft picks and players who may take a few years, if ever, to join the squad. If things continue to trend this way for Feaster and the Flames, the next few years may be rather difficult on their fans as they tear down the team…something Feaster promised would not happen.

Can we expect a few more moves out of Feaster to acquire NHL ready players? Will he use his acquired draft selections to climb in the draft or move them for young promising players? Tough to say at this point…

Kiprusoff’s play last night can likely be attributed to his pending trade to the Leafs. Toronto has been given permission to speak with his agent but, according to Elliott Friedman, his contract can’t be extended until July 1st and he’s got an almost $6 million contract. Darren Dreger of TSN reported that so far Leafs brass have only spoken with Kiprusoff’s agents, and that GM David Nonis will speak directly with the goalie sometime today.

If a deal between the two teams goes down, it would be wise to make it today given that the Leafs have a few days off between games. This hasn’t been Kipursoff’s year and for the Flames sake, it might be the best time to move him, especially with the acquisition of Reto Berra and Karri Ramo waiting in the wings.

While I’ve previously held that the Flames should hold onto him to mentor the next goalie for the team, at this point in time Miikka may not even play next year and it would be a shame if the Flames didn’t acquire something for the veteran tender.

That’s all for today folks, thanks for reading!
