The Calgary Flames extended their win streak at home last night to 6, defeating the Nashville Predators 6-3 last night at the Saddledome.

Jarome Iginla was noticeably absent from the game sheet last night, he had 5 shots on the night but was unable to convert. It wouldn’t matter though, the Flames got it done with out their Captains contributions. Giordano started things off with a goal 6 minutes into the 1st and Hudler and Comeau contributed in the 2nd with a goal a piece but the biggest start of the night has got to be Curtis Glencros; he earned a hattrick in the 3rd period and has 5 points in two games and moved past all other Flames to lead with 12 goals this season.

The Glencross, Stempniak, and Stajan line have combined for 12 points over two games and the Glencross-Stempniak match up seems to be unstoppable. They break out to move past their defenders and their passing seems to be consistently tape to tape.

The Flames never let Rinne recover scoring two goals on two shots and sending the Pred’s goalie to the dressing room early on. They did a good job of protecting their lead, shots on goal last night were low but Calgary wasn't outshot in a single period. The Flames executed a reliable 3 periods and deserved the win. These are the games that they cannot lose; beating a middle of the road team moves Calgary up and sends them down the leader board.

Since recovering from their failed road trip, the Flames have moved from last place in the West to 12th and sit just four points back of the Kings, Minnesota, and San Jose for 8th in the Western Conference. Though they have the same 26 points as the Oilers, Calgary has more wins and have also moved past Edmonton for 3rd in the Northwest division.

The Flames haven’t been able to secure a three game win streak yet this season. If they want to prove to fans and critics that they are contenders for a playoff spot, their three game road trip to Dallas, Nashville, and then Columbus will be the biggest test. Starting off with a win Monday night in Dallas would be huge for the Flames.

Whether or not you continue to cheer on the Flames wins this year, their GM and coach will continue to fight night in and night out for wins as the season continues on. Most fans have but thrown their jerseys on the ice throughout this shortened season, but the team and ownership group continue to display their desire to win. While it has not been table just yet, their captain has continuously been part of trade talks and this has not cooled off with recent wins, either.

Pierre Lebrun continues to discuss possible destinations for Iginla, recently noting that the LA Kings continue to show interest for the veteran star. In addition to these rumors, there has been a lot of chatter regarding 21 year old Beau Bennett being a piece in which the Flames have interest.

Whether a deal could be made between the two teams to send Iginla to the Pens and Bennett to the Flames remains to be seen, however. Many fans still hold that the Penguins should focus their attention on the backend…something in my opinion wouldn't change by acquiring a guy like Iginla.

That’s all for today folks, thanks for reading!
