The Anaheim Ducks had their six-game win streak snapped by the suddenly resurgent L.A. Kings. The 5-2 loss at Staples Center was a good reminder that even at 48 games the NHL season is far from over.
The loss also snapped Viktor Fasth's undefeated streak to start a career. He is now 8-1-0. The 30-year-old was not as sharp as we are used to seeing him and there are at least two goals that I'm sure he would love to have back. He was bound to lose eventually, and who knows tasting defeat may be more beneficial to his development than winning over and over again. I know fans don't like losing, but sometimes its the best things for players (goalies) and their teams.
The game was tightly contested with both team trading punches and we even had a chance to see Sheldon Souray get in a scrap with Kings tough gut Jordan Nolan. Just like the game, Nolan got the best of that fight.
After a scoreless first period the teams traded goals in the second period with the Ducks gaining and relinquishing the lead both times. In the third period the Kings took over and the tired Ducks (played the night before) wilted.
I will be back with the game highlights later....
