I wake up at 6 am, not 4 am but I managed to catch the last four minutes of the USA vs. CAN game and as EJ Rhadek said 'Team USA stunned Team Canada' in a 5 - 1 win.
What was stunning to me was that I could recognize the voices of the announcer next to EJ, but couldn't place the name. Then someone from Twitter said it and I smiled from ear to ear.
Ex-New York Islander radio voice Steve Mears calls games for the NHL Network and that just makes me happy. Steve is a hard working and intelligent young man with a great voice. Now, a few years older than when he worked for the Isles, he has a handsome, mature look and is just perfect for television. He is never rattled and always clear. Just as his ex-partner, Chris King, he never studders and you'll never hear the word "um" now matter how fast he has to speak or how long he has to wait for a call. Professional to the 'enth' degree.
Ryan Strome had chance upon chance on Team USA's Gibson, but Gibson kept closing the door. Team Canada will play for the possibility of Bronze and Team USA moves on to the Gold Medal game guaranteed nothing less than silver.
Steve Mears has always been 'silver' in my book!
