Updated 8:24. Sides did not get together with mediator today. But will begin sessions tomorrow ...As they attempt to find some common ground, it feels like the perfect time for a poll.
There is a very interesting phenomenon going on with people who call themselves NHL Hockey fans right now...and this is why I am really worried for the future of this league should this lockout progress much longer.. People have had it. Fans, who I know love the game (Hell they are reading Hockeybuzz at least) are saying things like:
"Cancel the season already," and "I am so sick and tired of this" and "I can't support these out-of-touch millionaires and Billionaires"...and my favorite..."Stop being optimistic. They will never get a deal again Ek, so what are you even talking about?"
I get it. I minored in Psychology. People are protecting themselves from getting hurt. It is easier to just say, "Nothing will work out" than it is to hope for something better.
I won't get into any of my usual, "This is a process" or "As long as we keep inching closer, or even, "I just can't see throwing away everything over this small of an actual gap. The NHL just has a date they want to settle by and we haven't gotten to that date yet..."
Instead I want to here where you are now.... You can be as angry as you want in these comments (Just remember keep it clean for the younger readers) and also, if you would, fill out the poll below to tell me where you are right now. I will then make sure the leaders of both sides see these poll results, so the more results there are the bigger impact we can possibly make.
Darren Dreger Today in his twitter feed quoted the very popular player Jamal Mayers who is the latest player to come out strong against the league. Here is what he had to say...
1) "Owners can't give anymore? What have they given? We're conceding in every area and expected to keep giving? Share 57-50"
2) "Make Whole. They signed contracts system issues? We offered solution to back diving they don't need other issues let Managers manage"
3) "Pension it would be at our cost they still say no...so many more issues they have not given anything just take take take!"
4) "Biggest complaint is us not using same language. We did last Wed and they shot it down in 2hrs? over $182 M over 5 yrs? Makes sense?
5) "ALL players are now willing to dig in"
All strong statements from a very popular player. And from talking to quite few other players I can tell you Jamal is not alone in these beliefs This is the kind of language that many players are using to express their frustration. I believe Mayers has hit on the topics exactly as they are viewed by the players right now. Before I give my opinion I am very curious how the fans view what Jamal (and essentially the majority of the players) are feeling and saying...
