Devils Shutout 4-0 by Phantoms + New Jersey Devils Prospect Updates

The Albany Devils were back in action Saturday night in the second half of a back-to-back. Coming off a loss the previous night, they were hoping for a better result against the Adirondack Phantoms; and they did not get it. Here are some notes on that game as well as some New Jersey Devils prospect updates.

- As noted, Keith Kinkaid got the nod in goal yesterday evening and stopped 29-of-33 in the loss. After a good couple of outings to start the season, he has really struggled the last few games losing all three while posting a .905 save percentage or less in all three starts. I like Kinkaid and think he will turn it around, but if he keeps playing like this Jeff Frazee will be getting a lot more starts - at least temporarily. Something to keep your eye on over the next few weeks.

- All the A-Devs big guns were shut down last night. Adam Larsson was minus-2 with two shots, Jacob Josefson was even but had just one shot, and Adam Henrique, Bobby Butler, and Mattias Tedenby were all minus-1 as well. The Devils are struggling to score right now despite all the added firepower and the Devils team defense and goaltending has been poor for the most part, as well. Perhaps when Alex Urbom returns things will start turning around.

- The Devils record moved to 2-5-1 on the season after the shutout loss. There's way too much talent on that team to have results like this, and if they don't turn it around very soon they may miss the playoffs again, because I think Henrique, Larsson, Josefson and perhaps another player or two will be in New Jersey when the season starts, and it's looking like we may actually have one.

- Scott Wedgewood stopped 24-of-26 in a 2-1 Trenton loss to Reading. That's two consecutive losses for Wedgewood, who sports a 4-3-0 record on the year.

- Reid Boucher had a goal, a plus-2 rating and four PIMs in last night's 7-5 Sarnia win over Plymouth. A good outing for a streaky Boucher, now he needs to keep it going.

- Graham Black and Reece Scarlett were held off the scoresheet in a 2-1 Swift Current loss to Edmonton. Black was minus-1 while Scarlett posted an even rating.

- Damon Severson was plus-1 in a 5-0 Kelowna win over Prince George. After a very good start to the season (eight points in 12 games), Severson has failed to record a point in five consecutive games.

- Stefan Matteau was minus-1 and recorded two PIMs in a rare BLB Armada loss. The Armada fell to the Wildcats, just as they did on National Television just over a week ago.

- Blake Coleman had three shots and was minus-1 in a 4-2 Miami Ohio win over Ferri State.

- Devils prospects in action across the CHL tonight: Reid Boucher, Ben Johnson, Ben Thomson, Stefan Matteau.
