New Jersey Devils Still Interested in Petr Sykora + Other Notes

One of the better free agents remaining in terms of both production and expected asking price, Petr Sykora, is still available waiting to be plucked up by an NHL team. Sykora's goal is to re-sign with the Devils, and that still appears to be a possibility. Here are some notes on that, and some other Devils related topics.

- Devils President and General Manager Lou Lamoriello has said that he is still interested in bringing Sykora back to the Devils, but if Sykora isn't asking for the moon, you would have to think he would be brought back by now. The Devils have cap space, spots available in their group of top-9 forwards and Sykora wants to return. If Sykora wants to return and Lamoriello wants him back, what can possibly be the holdup?

I was thinking, and this is pure speculation on my part, that maybe the Devils are in on Alex Semin and are waiting to see what he does before moving forward with Sykora. I could be wrong, but it would make sense. Semin could replace most of, if not all, the offense Parise gave the Devils, and he's still available so if interested why not wait for him to make his decision? If Sykora is willing to wait and see, the Devils might as well take their time.

- I've said this before and I'll say it again, bringing Sykora back on a one year deal for 1-2 million dollars wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. His teammates like him and he showed he can still score 15-20 goals in the NHL. With that said, I wouldn't mind giving Mattias Tedenby a look in the Devils top-6.

- I've watched some of the Devils development camp online through their website and have followed along closely, and I've been very impressed with what I've seen from several players. The goaltenders have all been great. Right off the get go of the 1st scrimmage Keith Kinkaid made several big stops and locked pretty comfortable all throughout his time in net. I guess a year of professional hockey does that to you.

Scott Wedgewood and Maxime Clermont were good, as I expected them to be. Who I was impressed with the most, though, is goaltender Chris Rawlings who was invited to camp as an undrafted free agent. He's been locked in and has looked good in each outing. I didn't really expect much from him for obvious reasons, but he's been impressive.

- Devils development camp finishes up today. Expect some interviews and maybe some footage from camp to be posted on the Devils website and the Devils PR twitter. If you're hungry for footage, keep your eyes locked to those two locations.
