Earlier: Brenden Morrow Available?

On Tuesday, the Ottawa Senators reached out to veteran tough-guy Chris Neil and extended him for three more years, first reported by Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun.

Neil's contract is expected to total ~ $5.75M, which could ease him into an ever-growing salary cap at a $1.9M cap hit, if accurate. Considering Neil's fresh off of his second-highest scoring season to date(13G/15A -- 72 GP), the deal appears to be more than fair in the value department.

Of course, any kind of point production Chris Neil adds to the lineup on a game-to-game basis is just an added bonus. With the departure of both Zenon Konopka and Matt Carkner, Chris Neil will have to take on more of a role as the team's resident tough-guy, all while playing his usual agitating role on the bottom-six.

Neil's also turned into a clubhouse leader of sorts -- various players from the organization have cited him as the vocal leader of the team, even ahead of captain Daniel Alfredsson. What Neil lacks in actual skill, he attempts to make up for in physicality and leadership -- I'm not sure anyone hates losing more than #25.

His career totals are pretty amusing, and all have been logged with the Ottawa Senators: 812 GP, 99G/125A, 2,014 PIMs, 8,941 tTOI, and 173 fights.

The deal will see Chris Neil signed through the 2015-2016 season -- or, through the age of thirty-seven.

Back with more tomorrow.
