Report: Blues Sign Defenseman Taylor Chorney |

It's been clear for awhile now that the St. Louis Blues would be on the hunt this summer for defensemen. Specifically one of the top 4 variety. They also needed to further strengthen that area with at least one depth option. Apparently they've found one of the two.
Andy Strickland of TrueHockey.com reports the Blues have agreed to a one year deal with Taylor Chorney. This would be a two-way deal paying $575,000 in the NHL and $105,000 in the AHL.
The 25 year old Thunder Bay, Ontario split last season between the Edmonton Oilers and the Blues. He was claimed off of waivers on October 11th when Carlo Colaiacovo was placed on IR. The Oilers re-claimed their 2nd round pick in the 2005 draft, 35th overall, on November 10th. Between the two teams the North Dakota product appeared on only 5 NHL games and amassed no points. He did appear in 50 games with the Oklahoma City Barons of the AHL where he registered 6 goals and 29 points.
The deal has yet to be confirmed by the Blues. Assuming it is, Chorney will likely fill the space between two other NCAA products on the depth chart, Ian Cole (Norte Dame) and Cade Fairchild (Minnesota).
I plan on being back with more later tonight with a deep dive in to the Blues options on defense.
