I started a little Twitterversey yesterday with my Brooklyn post, and I will continue the conversation as soon as I have some facts and figures regarding MTA facts and Islander fan base geography.

Congratulations to the LA Kings for taking game one of the Stanley Cup finals. What a game it was! The Kings scored early and I thought it was all over for the Devils. Having seen Marty play for years, I know that if you get in his head early in the game, he’s usually done. However, ex-hockey player, hockey coach and Hanson Brother Steve Carlson vehemently disagreed with me over the phone last night prior to the game.

“Marty is a wily old veteran who has been there, done that and all the pressure is on Dustin Brown to perform. The Kings haven’t had to deal with the type of speed and aggression the Devils dish out and they’re going to have a tough time.”

The Kings scored early to take a one goal lead on a shot that (most say) Marty can usually save in his sleep. From there on, it was a classic battle. The Devils tied the game on a wild bounce off two players and in behind Quick. The replay was the only way to really see how it happened. Wild bounce.

The two goaltenders then battled it out and kept their composure for the entire game enduring a break for glass replacement and board repairs until it was sent to OT. (Much to my dismay as the night was getting late.) It was a nail biter for everyone until 11:47 of the extra frame when Kopitar got the puck passed Brodeur for the Kings second goal of the game.

I was in shock and thinking about calling my buddy Mr. Carlson as I’m sure he was watching in Cali. Kopitar had won the game after I had been told he may not be able to last past for the first two games.

Wow.
Great video of Doug Weight from NHL.com talking Devils hockey and the great shots of the party going on in Newark.

As Commissioner Bettman ended yesterday’s GM meetings in NYC, he addressed the media with his “state of the League” message. The League as a hole may be doing far better than expected, but there were questions regarding three clubs in danger: Phoenix, New Jersey and of course, the Islanders.

Q. Since we're asking about clubs, do you have anything to update on the Islanders' situation?
COMMISSIONER BETTMAN: They do need a new building. That remains. Charles Wang, despite tremendous frustration, to be looking at all the options that would keep the club in the New York metropolitan area.

For some reason, it seemed a lot longer when I was listening to it on XMHomeIce on the drive home.

Mr. Bettman was asked about a story that the LA Kings were for sale, but all parties denied it. Bad Media! Bad! He was also asked about the pending CBA negotiations and criticized the media for their speculation of impending doom.

So once the nail-biter of a final is over, we’ll have a nail-biter over CBA negotiations. I need a manicure.

Sidenote: Matt Moulson and his posse attended last night's game to support brother-in-law between the pipes, Quick. His beautiful, seven month pregnant wife stayed home. I can't believe there will be a little Moulson joining the little Grabner in a few months. The Isles family just keeps growing
