It is midway through May and for Avalanche fans that can only mean one thing: signings.
Most of the signins of the Avalanche happen after about the second week of may. Today the avalanche have announced Milan Hejduk will be back for another year after signing a one-year $2 million contract.
Hejduk is coming off his worst season as a pro with only 14 goals and 37 points, both career lows, during the 2011-12 season. It was also the first time since 1998 when he was a rookie.
Hejduk played poorly enough that he even was demoted to fourth line duty.
After he was named captain on Nov. 15, he posted seven goals, 18 assists in 65 games. Not the kind of production the Avs were expecting when they named him the leader.
Hope is that Hejduk, whether he comes back as a captain or just as a seasoned veteran, can have a bounceback season, along with Matt Duchene and he can once again become a 20 goal scorer for the Avs.
