MINNESOTA WILD SIGNS CHARLIE COYLE TO ENTRY-LEVEL CONTRACT
SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the team has signed forward Charlie Coyle to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Coyle, 19 (3/2/92), has posted 24 points (12-12=24) and is a plus-15 in 16 games for the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) this season, after posting 14 points (3-11=14) in 16 games for Boston University. Coyle, who will remain in Saint John for the rest of the Sea Dogs’ season, participated in the IIHF World Junior Championship for the second straight year, tying for the American lead with four goals while adding an assist in six games.
Coyle recorded 26 points (7-19=26) and 34 PIM in 37 games for Boston University in the 2010-11 season en route to Hockey East Rookie of the Year honors. He added six points (2-4=6) in six games as the United States claimed the bronze medal at the IIHF World Junior Championship. The 6-foot-2, 207-pound native of East Weymouth, Mass., was San Jose’s first-round pick (No. 28 overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. The Wild acquired Coyle on June 25, 2011, along with Devin Setoguchi and a first-round pick (Zack Phillips), in exchange for Brent Burns.
And so begins the youth movement for the Wild. Hopefully they sign Grandlund very soon too.
