Struggling Sens and Sunday Thoughts

Firstly, here's an unbelievable video from youtube of a 13-year old hockey player:

Three games on the schedule tonight:

***

Columbus 6, Ottawa 2

Columbus was all over Ottawa - not a very good weekend for the Sens who dropped back-to-back games and did not look good at all in either.

The Jackets scored 11 goals this weekend and have now won four in a row. For all the talk about Hitchcock as a defensive coach, he seems to have revived their struggling offense. Tonight it was Nash (2 goals), Fritsche (2 goals) and Hainsey (goal and 2 assists) leading the way.

Bad news for Columbus though as they lost Leclaire to injury, as well as Foote (lower body injury) and Carter (who collided with Klesla).

Gerber got the hook which means all four goalies were in on the action tonight. After two strong games, Gerber looked like the goalie who had given up 24 over he previous four starts.

Schubert had a goal and an assist - I think he's been one of the Sens' best players over the last little while.

I am shocked, absolutely SHOCKED that Anders Eriksson could play 26+ minutes for an NHL team and that team could be winning games. He's really come a long way - anyone who saw him play in Toronto wouldn't even recognize him.

NY Rangers 2, Florida 1

Good weekend for the Rangers who took 4 points and only allowed 2 goals.

The Rangers are interesting in that they really only have four players who can generate offense. If one (or more) of Jagr, Shanahan, Straka or Nylander go down for a long period of time, New York may be in trouble.

Tough break for Florida who will be without Bertuzzi for another 4-8 weeks. With Todd's contract up at the end of the year I'm sure the Panthers are hoping that he will recover prior to the deadline which will give them time to decide what to do with him.

I posted yesterday during the live thread that another pending UFA Gary Roberts would be perfect for the Sens.

Belfour played well once again - after a tough start he's given up 2 or less in 9 his last 14 starts.

***

Chicago 4, Edmonton 1

How good is Martin Havlat?!?! He's played just nine games but has 7 multi-point games. He also leads the team in goals and is one point off the lead in points - despite missing NINETEEN games.

Khabibulin is 9-4 this year. After a tough season last year he appears to be back in a big way.

Bondra will be a good addition to this team - their record is misleading because of all the injuries.

Edmonton's three game winning streak is snapped - they had given up just one goal in the last three games.
