Avs hapless at home

There's not place like anywhere but home.

From now on the Avs are going to live in hotels, eat at restaurants and wear their road jerseys as they fell to 1-5 at home this season with a 2-1 loss to the Calgary Flames.

The Avs are entering a key home stretch where they play 10 of 14 games at home and they started out in reverse. With all the overhaul of the roster, the Avs have scored seven goals at home. Total. The same number they scored in their game against Ottawa, one short of their goals total in Dallas.

Teams have figured it out: shut down the neutral zone, negate the speed of the Avs; in the offensive zone collapse everyone below the circles.

Whether it's youth, lack of talent or coaching, the Avs are abominable (running out of adjectives to desribe them) at home early this year. They come out fast and make a good initial push and then let off.

60 minute effort is becoming a curse word around this team, especially at home. To use coach Joe Sacco's favorite phrase, they either don't start games on time or they leave the arena before the game is over.

Things are just not clicking for the Avs and their passivity when they aren't is aggravating. When things go bad, there are too many players who just sit back and watch, waiting for others to make a play.

With so much on the line with this season, the Avs' margin of error is slim to none and there is only so much time before the Avs can shake things up.

Three Stars

1. Miikka Kiprusoff- 32 saves
2. Curtis Glenncross- game winning goal
3. LETOURNEAU-LEBLOND, PIERRE-LUC- for printing that name on all his papers, especially SAT-like tests.

Facepalm of the game

Gabriel (not Gary, Julie Browman) Landeskog recieves this for his turnover leading the Flames goal.

Bang Bang play of the game

Varlamov making a huge save on Olli Jokinen after Quincey and O'Brien botched a touch-up for an icing call. That's the best I got.
