Sources close to the Islanders inform me they are in "Heavy talks with Nashville, LA, SJ, Dallas, and Buffalo, and would love to make a few key trades this week."

This is not all that surprising when you realize the Isles simply can not enter the NHL season like this, without adding some experience and depth to their line-up. The Isles are taking the Predators model here of waiting for camp to come into focus and trying to steal away a few players that teams may be willing to move to open cap space.

The Isles have depth at goal, and a fine group of young scorers, but they still lack the kind of experience and balance that all young teams eventually realize they need to make them winners.

On Gomez...

I have been fairly clear in the past, but I will be so even more here...I logically don't see Gomez being moved right now, however my job is to report on the rumors I hear and once again Gomez is being discussed, and once again the team leading this charge is the Winnipeg Jets.

I have heard the Habs are demanding a defender in return...and yes I too was surprised to hear the Habs would be "demanding" anything and rather just happy to be ridding themselves of the salary...but "demanding" was the word used by this Montreal based source.
