Last night Lou Lamoriello and the Devils announced that they had signed Maxime Clermont - who was a 6th round pick in 2010 - to a three-year entry level contract.

Clermont is coming off a very successful season with the Gatineau Olympiques in which he led his team to the QMJHL finals, where they lost the series to the Memorial Cup Champion St. John Sea Dogs.

Though his numbers in the regular season were good, they don't even compare to his playoff numbers. In 21 playoff games, Clermont posted an 11-8-2 record with a 2.22GAA and a stunning .927SV%.

At age 19, Clermont is eligible to play in the AHL; however, he will likely return to the Gatineau Olympiques for at least one more year in the QMJHL.

Clermont, who is ranked as the 56th best goaltending prospect by TheGoalieGuild, will only see AHL time if Jeff Frazee or Keith Kinkaid go down with an injury.

In my opinion the QMJHL is best for Clermont's development as he will get more playing time. If Clermont comes up with another season like last year, he could find himself in TheGoalieGuild's top 30 goaltending prospects.
