Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson pulled the trigger on another change today as he won't be renewing the contracts of Assistant General Manager Don Boyd and Director of Pro Scouting Bob Strumm.

“We believe it was time to make changes in key areas of our organization as we strive to build a championship-caliber team,” said Howson. “I want to thank Don and Bob for their hard work and commitment over the past 12 years as each has made very positive contributions.”

This comes as no shock as rumors started to surface before the end of the season that this might be coming. It looks as if the complete scrubbing of the scouting staff that also was part of the rumors doesn't seem to be coming to fruition just yet.

According to the Dispatch, all 10 remaining scouts have been offered a one year contract extension but at this time none have signed it.

Boyd and Strumm are both originals starting with the organization before the Blue Jackets ever dropped the puck for the first time. Boyd started as director of amateur scouting in '99, he also was the director of player development, director of hockey operations and player personnel during his time with the club.

Strumm served as a pro scout for two years when he was promoted to director of pro scouting starting in the 2001-02 season.
