Terry Pegula's PR man, Ben Bouma, sent me this response to my email asking for information on the first ever Pegula press conference in his new building:

"Terry has no comment at this time and will not be available until after both the NHL approval process and the formalities of the sale are complete".

I'll keep firing the puck on the net. It will eventually go in!

Sabres VP of Public Relations, Mike Gilbert, just handed me this statement from new owner, Terry Pegula:

"As diehard fans of the Buffalo Sabres, the Pegula Family would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Tom Golisano and Larry Quinn on their committment to hockey fans in Western New York and their dedicated stewardship of the franchise. Without their generosity and perserverance through tough economic times and labor issues, there would not be a team for the Buffalo community to support. We will be forever grateful for their efforts in developing one of the best markets in the National Hockey League and providing the foundation for future success. My wife Kim and I are hopeful that the league's approval process of our intent to purchase the franchise will move swiftly and we can begin the next era of Buffalo Sabres hockey in the very near future".

The Golisano-Quinn-Di Pofi Era is now a thing of the past.

NHL approval will be fast tracked and Terry Pegula will become the new owner of the Sabres in the next two weeks or less.

Larry Quinn told me that he will exit his office inside HSBC in the next two weeks. Larry will spend time with his family and will invest time in improving his own personal health. Quinn was charming and candid in a post presser, sidebar meeting with a few member of the media. The general feeling that I get from LQ is that he is looking forward to decompressing from the NHL and that he's ready to open a new chapter in his personal life.

I'm just speculating, however...

I can see Lindy Ruff moving up to the Buffalo GM position in the future, while Portland's head coach, Kevin Dineen, assumes the head coaching reigns in Buffalo. Ruff has expressed interest in the recent past that he would like to be an NHL GM in his career. Dineen will be a hot ticket to coach an NHL team in the very near future. Perhaps Pegula honors Darcy Regier's remaining contract, for the balance of this season and next. Ruff then could take the GM job and Dineen could become head coach.

The American Hockey League announced today that Portland Pirates right wing Mark Mancari has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Month for January. In 15 games, Mancari scored 13 goals, dished out eight assists and posted a plus-10 rating as the Pirates continued their chase for the Atlantic Division title.

Mancari was held scoreless in his first and last games of the month but fashioned a 13-game scoring streak in between, matching the longest run in the AHL this season. He posted three consecutive three-point games over the weekend of Jan. 21-23, and became the first AHL player in nearly two years to notch back-to-back hat tricks when he scored three goals on Jan. 22 vs. Providence and three more on Jan. 23 at Worcester. Included in Mancari’s month were two power-play goals, one shorthanded goal and one game-winner.
