Here's what a subdued Michael Leighton had to say today after he cleared waivers and packed his bags for the Phantoms:

LEIGHTON on LEIGHTON:

“I’m really disappointed and I’m disappointed in myself and the fact that I got injured. There’s nothing I can do about that. It was a tough situation.

"Everyone tells me it’s not my fault it happened. If one of these guys weren’t playing well, it might have made for an easier decision but both these guys are playing well.

“I just haven’t played enough and I had one game and some shaky goals went in and it just had to happen; they had to make a decision.

“Once you think you have security in life, you sign a two year deal and think coming into camp that you’re the starting goalie and it changes quick.

"Going from that mindset to being injured and trying to work my way back and get my spot back to going to the minors, it’s tough. It’s going to be tough on me and my family.

“It’s been tough not knowing what’s going to happen and obviously, waivers is never a fun thing to be on. You never know what is going to happen. Getting sent down is disappointing for me, but on the other hand, I get a chance to play and I have to look at that as a positive.

“I know they had to make a decision … I would have liked to have gotten the opportunity to play a few more games. Homer made a good point. The team doesn’t have time to give me 2 or 3 games in a row just to see how I do … Something had to be done …"
